It’s a valid question that you likely ask yourself at times (for many often going into a new year such as 2022)…Am I Healthy? WTF does HEALTHY even mean? How will you know if you are or if you are not? My guess is that you have a pretty darn good idea of whether you are in fact healthy or not!?
Health can certainly have many different meaning to many different people and in many different situations but for many may include:
- Physical Well Being
- Emotional Well Being
- Mental Well Being
- Spiritual Well Being
- Financial Well Being
It is kind of interesting. Google “health”, then Google “Healthy”. If your results are anything like mine “health” returns a majority of results relating to medical, medicine, doctors, insurance etc. “Healthy” however, seems to all be about food/nutrition. Wouldn’t it be tough to argue that Health should be about the absence of medical, medicine, doctors, insurance etc.???
Look at yourself naked in a full-length mirror. Not simply a cursory glance. Take a good long look, with the bright lights on! Do you like what you see? That may be as telling as any other metric, because liking what you see, being comfortable in your own skin, so to speak, might well be one of the most important tenants to the foundation of overall health. Don’t beat yourself up over things you cannot change. Learn to embrace and appreciate those unique traits that make you…YOU. However, if your belly has 20 extra pounds preventing you from seeing your toes and jiggles like strawberry jello in an earthquake, let it motivate you to change it.
How do you sleep? For most people, especially as we age, the answer often is not as well as I used to. Do we get old because we do not sleep well? Do we not sleep well because we get old? Who knows? If you do not sleep well, do you know why? Stress and alcohol/drug use including caffeine often play a role.
What is your diet/nutrition like? How do you perform physically. How are your interpersonal relationships with friends, family, loved ones etc? Do you take prescription medication? If you do, do you know exactly why (other than your doctor telling you that you should?) How is your social life. Are you happy? If not why? How is your financial health.
Do you have a relationship with God, with your higher power with religion and those that believe as you do?
How do YOU define health? Are you HEALTHY???
